MML3 Reaverbot Reave-ival
Like Aero and the Donner Wels before it, the winning reaverbot Calamity also underwent some revisions to arrive at the final design. Above is the original artwork provided in the winning submission, and a view without clouds provided later at the developers' request.
Art Director Ishihara-san applied a more classic reaverbot style to the joints, removed the indentations on the legs, and enlarged the legs for better balance and to enhance the liveliness of its animations. He also changed the reaverbot eyes to the classic red color, mentioning that they wanted to emphasize the feature in Legends 3 as a shared characteristic among reaverbots. Things were tried to make the eyes stand out better from the rest of its body, including white rings, but in the end it was decided that the eyes lighting up in the finished game would create enough distinction.
After making the changes, Ishihara-san realized that part of the reaverbot's charm was in the imbalance of it, so returned the legs to their original size and also enlarged the cloud. The the image below represents the finished design. The developers also noted that, with the exception of Mimic, all reaverbot names are made up words and therefore Calamity's name would probably be changed in the end.
